GM to invest $69 mln to build new diesel engine

DETROIT, Feb 5 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Tuesday announced a $69 million investment in an Ohio plant to manufacture a new diesel engine that will meet U.S. emission standards due to go into effect in 2010.

The investment will include renovation of the DMAX plant in Moraine, Ohio, plus new machinery and tooling to support production of the Duramax 6.6 liter V-8 engine. Production of the new engine is due to start in January 2010.

The DMAX plant is a joint venture with Isuzu Motors Ltd (7202.T: Quote, Profile, Research). GM owns 60 percent of the joint venture, Isuzu owns 40 percent.
