MEXICO CITY, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Mexican supermarket operator Comercial Mexicana, unable to pay its debts because of fallout from the global credit crisis, said on Tuesday it has been notified of legal proceedings related to its problems.
Comercial Mexicana (COMEUBC.MX) said in a statement it expects to be informed of more proceedings over the next few days.
Comercial Mexicana is in deep financial trouble after its debt ballooned to $2 billion in October following massive losses on derivatives bets against the dollar.
The company recently requested court protection from creditors for a second time after a prior request was turned down.
In late October, Comercial Mexicana said it obtained loans worth up to 3.327 billion pesos to keep paying suppliers. One of the loans, for up to 3 billion pesos, is backed by government development bank Nacional Financiera, or Nafin. ($1 = 12.98 pesos) (Reporting by Noel Randewich)
