MAEIL BUSINESS NEWSPAPER
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told reporters that the Sea of Japan, called the East Sea in South Korea, is an internationally used name, in response to a question on whether China's reference to the sea as the Sea of Japan at the Olympics reflected the government's official stance.
Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) expanded its share of the liquid crystal display market despite sluggish LCD demand and oversupply, further widening the gap between the company and second-place LG Display Co Ltd (034220.KS), according to market researcher DisplaySearch.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (034020.KS) has decided to cooperate with Japan's Toshiba Corp (6502.T) and Toshiba supplier IHI Corp (7013.T) on nuclear power plant technology, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported.
South Korea's consumer sentiment index has reached its lowest since the 1998 financial crisis, plunging to 37.7 points in the third quarter, down 10.1 points from the previous quarter, according to Samsung Economic Research Institute.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has arrested seven members of the Socialist Workers League of Korea, including a professor and a labour activist, on charges of violating the National Security Law.

An electronic ankle bracelet system for sex offenders will be introduced in South Korea from September 1, the Justice Ministry said. About 300 offenders nationwide are expected to be subjected to the new system.
