CHIBA, Japan, Oct 21 (Reuters) - A Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) executive said on Wednesday that 30 percent of all new cars sold worldwide could be hybrid cars by 2020.

Toyota also expects initial sales of a "few thousand" pure battery-powered electric vehicles when it launches its first mass-market model in 2012, Takeshi Uchiyamada, executive vice president in charge of R&D, told a group of reporters on the sidelines of the Tokyo Motor Show.

He said the 30 percent figure did not include plug-in hybrid vehicles. (Reporting by Chang-Ran Kim)
