RPT-Thai PTT may import 1 mln tonnes of LNG from Tangguh
(Repeats to attach to alert)
BANGKOK, May 2 (Reuters) - PTT PCL PTT.BK, Thailand's top oil and gas firm, said on Friday it was in talks with Indonesia's Tangguh about importing one million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2011 or 2012.
The energy giant, which does not now import LNG, said it expected to finalise the purchase plan shortly, PTT official Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith told Reuters.
"We're still working on the details but we should be able to finalise whether to buy it soon," Chitrapongse, chief operating officer of PTT's upstream and gas operations, told Reuters.
He declined to give a timeframe, although he said Thailand would hopefully be able to start importing in 2011 or 2012.
PTT has already signed a deal to import 1 million tonnes of LNG per year from Qatar, starting in 2011, and has said it was dealing with other LNG suppliers.
PTT was also building a $700 million LNG terminal at Map Tha Put in the eastern Thai province of Rayong which was expected to come into operation in 2011. ($1=31.65 Baht) (Reporting by Ploy Chitsomboon; Editing by Ed Cropley and Louise Heavens)
