India coal shortage seen at 70 mln T in 09/10 -govt

NEW DELHI, July 13 (Reuters) - India's coal consumption will reach 604.3 million tonnes in the fiscal year to March 2010, leaving a shortfall of 70 million tonnes, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal told the parliament on Monday.

He said is a written reply to a question that domestic production of coal was estimated at 534 million tonnes in 2009/10. (Reporting by Manoj Kumar; Editing by John Mair)
