PARIS, Dec 17 (Reuters) - French oil and gas major Total (TOTF.PA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Indonesia on carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage (CCS), the firm said on Monday.

Under the agreement, Indonesia will have access to data from Total's CCS pilot project in Lacq, Southwest France, Total said in a press release.

Total's CCS project is expected to start running at the end of 2008, a total spokesman said.

"The project we are launching in Lacq is not a company secret, we are ready to share the information we will obtain through our experience," he said.

But no other country has expressed the wish to have access to the information, he added.

Total chairman Thierry Desmarest said earlier this year it costs $100 a tonne to capture and store CO2. (Reporting by Muriel Boselli)
