NEW YORK, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) said Tuesday its U.S. Gulf of Mexico operations have returned to normal following Tropical Storm Ida, but it's waiting for better weather to assess and restart offshore production at its Mobile Bay facilities.

An Exxon spokesman said the structures the company operates in Mobile Bay, located in waters near Mobile, Alabama, were for natural gas production only. Ida swept ashore close to Mobile Bay early Tuesday.

Once Exxon can ensure that the Mobile Bay operations are "both safe and operational," the company will restart normal operations there, it said in a statement.

Ida has been downgraded to a tropical depression. (Reporting by Joshua Schneyer in New York; editing by Jim Marshall)
