Valero says Port Arthur hydrocracker still shut

NEW YORK, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Valero Energy Corp (VLO.N) said on Monday that overhaul work was still ongoing on a 45,000 barrel per day (bpd) hydrocracker at its 295,000 bpd Port Arthur, Texas oil refinery.

Sources familiar with refinery operations had said on Friday that Valero was set to finish a 38-day overhaul on the hydrocracking unit over the weekend.

"The turnaround at the Port Arthur refinery hydrocracker remains under way," Valero spokesman Bill Day said in an email.

Valero did not provide a specific start up date for the Port Arthur hydrocracker project, the first scheduled to be done at six Valero refineries in the second half of 2008.

A hydrocracker uses hydrogen under high pressure and heat to increase the amount of motor fuel obtained from a barrel of oil. (Reporting by Haitham Haddadin; Editing by Marguerita Choy)
