UPDATE 1-Exxon: Baytown units restarting later in week

HOUSTON, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N) said on Monday units at its Baytown, Texas, refining and chemical plant complex would be starting up later this week after being shut for Hurricane Ike.

"The Baytown complex continues to develop its startup plan," said Exxon spokesman Kevin Allexon. "Units will be starting up later in the week."

The Baytown complex, which is on the east side of the Houston metropolitan area and includes the largest U.S. refinery with a capacity of 567,000 barrels per day, was completely shut on Friday ahead of Hurricane Ike.

Exxon told Texas pollution regulators in a filing on Monday that its Baytown Olefins Plant, which processes refining byproducts, planned to begin restarting on Monday.

Exxon has begun pumping gasoline from its storage tanks at the refinery, Allexon said. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; editing by Jim Marshall)
