Brazil's Bovespa index rises 1.6 pct to record
SAO PAULO, May 15 (Reuters) - Brazil's benchmark stock index rose to an intraday record on Thursday, led by a surge in shares of mining giant Vale and state-controlled oil company Petrobras.
The Bovespa index .BVSP of the Sao Paulo stock exchange rose 1.61 percent to 71,154 points from Wednesday's close of 70,026.62.
Vale (VALE5.SA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) rose about 2 percent to 56.36 reais as prices of copper and other industrial metals gained. Petrobras (PETR4.SA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) was up 1.19 percent to 46.85 reais.
