NEW YORK, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Marathon Oil said it plans to build a distillate hydrotreater at its 73,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Canton, Ohio, in 2008 to produce ultra-low sulfur diesel.

"We expect to start in the early part of 2008," said Angela Graves, a spokeswoman for the company.

She said that the project is estimated to cost about $170 million.

During the same time frame, the company will spend $36 million to upgrade the refinery's water treatment facility to meet Ohio standards which will go into effect in 2010. (Reporting by Janet McGurty)
