NEW DELHI, May 6 (Reuters) - India's Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd's (HPCL.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) refining operations have not been hit by the strike called by some of its employees, a director in the company told Reuters.
HPCL's 110,000 bpd Mumbai refinery has been shut since April 22 for 35 days for planned maintenance and to add new clean fuel units. It also runs a 150,000 bpd refinery at Vizag on the east coast.
"The refinery operations are absolutely normal. Vizag is running normal and Mumbai turnaround is continuing smoothely," HPCL's director of refineries M. A. Tankiwala.
Some employees have called for a strike, demanding they should be offered jobs at the firm's venture with steel tycoon L.N. Mittal, which is building a 180,000 bpd refinery in northern India.
Ashok Singh, who heads the Management Staff Association at HPCL and is also an official of a union representing all state firms, said other oil companies may also join the strike on Wednesday. (Reporting by Nidhi Verma)
