Australia Caltex says posts higher 2008 profit

PERTH, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Caltex Australia Ltd (CTX.AX), the country's only listed oil refiner and marketer, said it posted an unaudited operating profit of A$185 million ($123.5 million) in 2008, above guidance given last month, thanks to improved refining margins and exchange rates.

The previous guidance was between A$135 million to A$155 million, Sydney-based Caltex said in a statement.
