NEW YORK, April 3 (Reuters) - BP Plc (BP.L) on Thursday said it made an oil discovery at its Kodiak prospect in the deepwater Gulf Of Mexico, near the company's Tubular Bells discovery.

BP said it drilled a well about 60 miles southeast of the Louisiana Coast, in about 5,000 feet of water. The Kodiak well was drilled to a total depth of about 31,150 feet and encountered about 500 net feet of hydrocarbon-bearing sands.

BP owns a 63.75 percent working interest in the prospect. Italy's Eni (ENI.MI) holds a 25 percent working interest and Japan's Marubeni Corp (8002.T) holds an 11.25 percent stake. (Reporting by Michael Erman, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
