UPDATE 1-Accsys pretax profit falls as costs surge
* Net profit rises on other income, tax credits
* Says will not propose dividend for 2009
* Administrative expenses eat into pretax profit (Adds details)
July 2 (Reuters) - Accsys Technologies Plc (ACCS.L) reported a 67 percent fall in full-year pretax profit, hurt by higher administrative costs, but net profit rose helped by settlement of a licensing agreement and tax credits.
The environmental science and technology company also said it would not pay a dividend for 2009 to preserve cash. In 2008, Accsys had paid a dividend of 0.01 euro per share.
Given the current global economic environment, Accsys will focus on controlling costs and improving efficiencies in all its departments, the company said on Thursday.
For the year ended March 31, Accsys reported a pretax profit of 1.8 million euros ($2.54 million), down from 5.4 million euros last year.
Revenue rose by 14 percent to 31.2 million euros.
Administrative expenses rose 60 percent to 18.3 million euros as it increased engineering and technical resources to prepare for growth and future opportunities, the company said.
The company's net profit, however, rose to 5.4 million euros from 4.1 million euros, helped by an income of 8.3 million euros from early settlement of a licensing agency agreement and tax credit of 3.6 million euros.
"We are now starting to see renewed interest and enthusiasm as there are signs that we are emerging from the recent economic turbulence and uncertainty. We remain confident about the long term prospects for our Accoya wood technology," Chief Executive Finlay Morrison said in a statement.
At 0750 GMT, Accsys shares were up 2.8 percent at at 0.74 euros on the London Stock Exchange. ($1=.7088 Euro) (Reporting by Usman Merchant in Bangalore; Editing by Gopakumar Warrier)
