Indian shares open 0.4 pct up, then fall

MUMBAI, Dec 18 (Reuters) - Indian shares opened up 0.4 percent on Tuesday but then quickly slipped into negative territory, led by ICICI Bank (ICBK.BO) and HDFC Bank (HDBK.BO).

At 9:58 a.m. (0428 GMT), the 30-share BSE index .BSESN was down 0.42 percent, or 80.32 points, at 19,181.03, with 13 components falling.

The 50-issue NSE index was down 0.49 percent at 5,748.55. (Reporting by Devidutta Tripathy, editing by John Mair)
