Indian shares open up, Reliance Power gains

MUMBAI, Feb 18 (Reuters) - Indian shares opened 0.62 percent higher on Monday, buoyed by mostly firm Asian markets, with gains led by Larsen & Toubro Ltd (LART.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Reliance Communications Ltd (RLCM.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz).

At 9:55 a.m. (0425 GMT), the 30-share BSE index .BSESN was up 113 points at 18,228.21.

The 50-issue NSE index was up 0.76 percent at 5,343.25.

Shares in Reliance Power Ltd (RPOL.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) rose 10.74 percent to 426 rupees in early deals after it said on Sunday its board would meet on Feb 24 to consider issuing bonus shares.
