Indian shares open up 0.84 pct

MUMBAI, Feb 26 (Reuters) - India's main stock index opened 0.84 percent higher on Tuesday, led by gains in Reliance Industries (RELI.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and HDFC Bank (HDBK.BO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz).

By 9:57 a.m. (0427 GMT), the 30-share index .BSESN was up 0.63 percent, or 111.91 points, at 17,762.48, with 25 components rising.

The broader NSE index rose 0.72 percent to 5,238.15. (Reporting by Devidutta Tripathy; Editing by John Mair)
