Jan 7 (Reuters) - Fair Isaac Corp FIC.N, a provider of credit-scoring system, said it would cut 250 jobs globally as part of an ongoing cost-reduction program and expects to reduce expenses by about $40 million in fiscal 2009.

Of the 250 jobs, the company said it already cut 80 jobs during the first quarter and expects to take a restructuring charge of about $8 million. [ID:nWNAB7664]

"These aggressive and decisive actions will protect Fair Isaac's profitability in the face of the global slowdown in financial markets," Chief Executive Mark Greene said in a statement.

Fair Isaac, which has offices in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Europe, Singapore, China and Japan, said its resulting global workforce will now total about 2,100 employees, about 25 percent lower than a year earlier.

The company also expects to eliminate additional positions through attrition during 2009.

Shares of the company closed down 2 percent at $16.54 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange. (Reporting by Adheesha Sarkar in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
