KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Malaysia's biggest lender, Malayan Banking Bhd (MBBM.KL: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), will make a corporate announcement later on Tuesday, the bank said, amid speculation that it was set to name a new chief executive.

It gave no details but the Edge Financial Daily said on Tuesday the head of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TLMM.KL: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), Abdul Wahid Omar, had been appointed to take over the reins of Maybank.

Abdul Wahid is set to replace Maybank Chief Executive Amirsham Aziz, whose contract expires in April, the Edge Financial Daily said in a report quoting unidentified sources. In a note to editors, Maybank said it called for a news conference at 12.30 P.M. (0430 GMT) on Tuesday.
