Court hearings in Wachovia battle postponed
NEW YORK, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Two judges postponed court hearings on Wednesday as Citigroup (C.N) and Wells Fargo & Co (WFC.N) extended their legal truce for two more days in the battle to acquire Wachovia.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Charles Ramos postponed a hearing to Oct. 14 from Friday on Citigroup's action to stop Wachovia and Wells Fargo merging, the judge's clerk said. Citigroup says it already had an agreement with Wachovia before Wells stepped in with a higher bid last Friday.
U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan postponed a hearing indefinitely into Wachovia's attempt in federal court to prevent Citigroup from stopping Wells Fargo, according to court documents. The hearing had been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon as the parties continued negotiations. (Reporting by Grant McCool; Editing by Tim Dobbyn)
