Some Countrywide clients got loans via CEO -WSJ
NEW YORK, June 8 (Reuters) - Some of Countrywide Financial Corp's CFC.N customers got loans through Chief Executive Angelo Mozilo, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.
The borrowers, known internally as "friends of Angelo," include two former chief executives of Fannie Mae, the biggest buyer of Countrywide's mortgages, the paper reported, citing unnamed sources.
The paper said it was not illegal for the mortgage firm to treat some customers better than others. But it said that if Fannie Mae officials got special treatment it could cause a political problem for the government-sponsored company.
Representatives for Countrywide and Fannie Mae could not be reached immediately for comment.
