SEOUL, Feb 4 (Reuters) - Seoul stocks extended gains to 3.1 percent on Monday, led by Internet stocks such as NHN after Microsoft's bid for Yahoo lifted the sector on Wall Street, while chip makers rose on an expected rebound in memory chip prices.

Shipbuilders rallied also, adding to recent gains after Hyundai Heavy and a smaller rival announced big orders, easing worries that ship orders had peaked in 2007 and would shrink this year due to tough credit markets.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index was up 3.2 percent to 1,686.20 points as of 0159 GMT.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the world's top memory chip maker, jumped 4.27 percent to 611,000 won, while top Internet portal NHN (035420.KQ: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) surged 7.15 percent to 214,300 won.

Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd (009540.KS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the world's top shipbuilder, rose 5.99 percent to 345,000 won.
