Korea Hot Stocks-Steel makers, Hyundai Motor units

SEOUL, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Stocks on the move on Wednesday include:

As of 0235 GMT, the main KOSPI was up 0.09 percent at 1,644.81 points with shipbuilders extending gains after a recent spate of orders soothed worries over credit strains hitting new orders, while steel makers rose on expectations of price hikes.

The index opened 1.22 percent higher at 1,663.29 points.

**STEELMAKERS GAINS ON HOPES OF PRICE HIKES**

Shares in steel firms advanced, clawing back recent sharp losses, as expectations grew that the companies would soon raise prices of steel products.

Hyundai Steel(004020.KS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) rose 1.78 percent to 68,700 won, while Dongbu Steel (016380.KS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) jumped 8.22 percent to 11,850 won.

POSCO Co Ltd (005490.KS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), the world's fourth-largest steel maker, gained 1.01 percent to 501,000 won.

"Dongbu Steel especially jumped sharply not only because of the growing expectations on higher steel prices but also because of a better outlook on 2008 Q1 earnings", said Mun Jeong-Up, an analyst at Daishin Securities.
