SYDNEY, Dec 13 (Reuters) - Westpac Banking Corp (WBC.AX: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), Australia's fourth-biggest lender, said on Thursday its credit quality continues to be sound despite uncertainties in the global credit market.

Westpac's Chairman Ted Evans said that while risks to the strong growth outlook for Australia have increased, the domestic economy is facing the current volatility in global credit markets from a position of strength.

"Overall, we see operating conditions in both Australia and New Zealand remaining broadly supportive, with Westpac well positioned in both markets," Evans told a shareholders meeting.
