Energy Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro has proposed that coal producers should pay their royalties to the government in coal instead of rupiah in a bid to secure the country's coal supplies.

The government should impose a kite flying ban near the runways of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport following complaints from a foreign airline, a spokesperson of the airport operator said.

Five bridges and 15 houses were swept away by floods that hit several regencies in Central Sulawesi province and paralysed the region.

Fifty-one regencies are aiming to build a biogas reactor to produce methane gas for household gas consumption partly to help weather the energy crisis, an agriculture ministry official said.
