VIENNA, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Austria's Intercell (ICEL.VI: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Wednesday it would cooperate with the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative to develop a new malaria vaccine.

The PATH-funded project will evaluate Intercell's new adjuvant IC31R vaccine with recombinant malaria antigens from the national health institute, Intercell said in a statement.

It said the study aimed to show whether IC31R, together with NIH antigens, triggers an immune response when evaluated in animals, with first results due by the end of 2008.

Intercell shares closed on Tuesday at 25.09 euros. (Reporting by Mark Heinrich; Editing by Quentin Bryar)
