TOKYO, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Japanese pharmaceutical firm Shionogi & Co (4507.T) said on Wednesday that it has applied for approval of its experimental influenza treatment peramivir in Japan.

Shionogi bought the rights to develop and sell peramivir in Japan and Taiwan for $35 million in 2007 from U.S. drugmaker BioCryst Pharmaceutical (BCRX.O). BioCryst maintains the rights to the intravenous drug in the United States.

The Japanese company has said it expects peramivir would generate annual sales of at least 5 billion yen ($55 million), [ID:nT30691]. (Reporting by Mariko Katsumura)
