LISBON, Sept 3 (Reuters) - It will cost Portugal 10 billion euros between 2013 and 2020 to meet new European Union greenhouse gas emission reductions, consultant A.T. Kearney said on Wednesday.

Brussels announced early this year plans for the union to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 percent between 2013 and 2020.

"Portugal will face additional costs of up to 10 billion euros with the EU's new energy and climate pact," said Joao Pena, managing director of A.T. Kearney in Portugal, as he presented a study on the costs to cut emissions.

Of those costs, electricity producers will face additional costs of between 4.7 billion euros and 6.6 billion euros while the industry will have bills of between 2.4 billion euros and 3.5 billion euros.

Pena said some of the costs will be passed on to consumers, with electricity rates likely to be 6 to 8 percent higher in 2013.

Energias de Portugal (EDP.LS) dominates the country's electricity sector and has championed the development of wind energy. EDP Renewables (EDPR.LS) is the world's fourth largest wind energy producer in terms of installed capacity. (Reporting by Patricia Rua; writing by Axel Bugge)
