- Russia's agriculture ministry will spend 10 billion roubles on subsidising local pork and poultry producers to compensate for their losses over the last six months.

- Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdykov has announced radical cuts in the army over the next three years, the daily says. The number of generals and officers will be cut to 150,000 from 330,000 today, the paper said.
