- The main shareholders of the state diamond company Alrosa have decided to replace the existing chief executive with Fyodor Andreyev, a deputy chief of Russian Railways in a crisis-linked move. - Local lawmakers are expected to approve legislation to ease the process of hiring foreigners to work at Russian banks and financial firms.
- The governor of Ulyanovsk region backs the restoration of the local capital to its historical name Simbirsk from Ulyanovsk. The leader of the 1917 October revolution Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin) was born there.
