Bulgaria PM trapped in ski lift due to power outage
SOFIA, Sept 17 (Reuters Life!) - Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev was trapped in a new cabin lift on Wednesday for nearly an hour due to a power outage, local media reported.
Stanishev visited the construction site of a new ski resort in the Rila mountains in southwestern Bulgaria when a generator powering the cabin lift got broken, said the national radio, whose correspondent was also trapped.
Construction Minister Asen Gagauzov and municipal officials from the southwestern town of Blagoevgrad were among the victims of the power outage too.
In July, tourists were trapped in elevators when Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Sunny Beach had a power blackout because poor infrastructure does not match growing consumption.
The Balkan country's Black Sea and mountain resorts have seen a rapid construction boom in the past few years, but electricity, water and road infrastructure is often inadequate. (Reporting by Anna Mudeva, editing by Paul Casciato)
