AES Calif. Redondo 8 natgas unit shut

NEW YORK, Sept 5 (Reuters) - AES Corp's (AES.N) 480-megawatt Unit 8 at Redondo Beach natural gas-fired power station in California shut for unplanned reasons by Thursday afternoon, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

This was the second unplanned outage for Unit 8 this week. Earlier, the unit shut by shut by Tuesday afternoon and returned by Wednesday afternoon.

The 1,310 MW station is located in Redondo in Los Angeles County, about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. There are four units at Redondo, two 175 MW Units 5 (which entered service in 1954) and 6 (1957), and two 480 MW Units 7 (1967) and 8 (1967).

The other units were available for service.

One MW powers about 700 homes in California.
