Nebraska utilities may join Southwest Power Pool

LOS ANGELES, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Three Nebraska publicly owned utilities may join the Southwest Power Pool, which manages power transmission in a seven-state region with about 4.5 million customers, the SPP said.

Nebraska Public Power District, Omaha Public Power District and Lincoln Electric System will be considered for SPP membership Sept. 8 at a special SPP meeting in Kansas City.

All of the utilities in Nebraska are publicly owned.

Nebraska would join utilities in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas as SPP members. The SPP currently administers a wholesale energy market with more than 59,000 MW of generating capacity. (Reporting by Bernie Woodall; Editing by Walter Bagley)
