Atlas Copco sees no sign of mining slowdown

STOCKHOLM, March 17 (Reuters) - Compressor and machinery maker Atlas Copco (ATCOa.ST) has seen no sign of a slowdown in demand from the booming mining industry, a senior executive at the Swedish firm said on Monday.

"I continuously visit mining customers around the world and meet people in leading positions, and I have not run into one mining company yet that sees any problems over the coming three to five years," said Bjorn Rosengren, head of Atlas Copco's Construction and Mining Technique unit (CMT).

The outlook for 2008 for the sectors where CMT operated in the United States remained good, Rosengren said, despite the weakness of U.S. residential construction following the collapse of subprime mortgage lending.

"If you add up all the segments where we do business in the U.S. market it still looks positive for this year," he said.
