S.Korean builders pull out of Kurdish project
SEOUL, Oct 10 (Reuters) - South Korean builders Hyundai Engineering & Construction (000720.KS) and Doosan Construction (011160.KS) said on Friday they were withdrawing from a consortium for a building project in Iraq's Kurdish region.
The decision came as financing for the deal could not be secured, the companies told the Korea Exchange. The deal was to provide infrastructure in return for stakes in oil fileds in northern Iraq.
State-run Korea National Oil Corp said in late September that it would purse the $2.1 billion pact with the Kurdish Regional Government alone, even if the builders pull out. (Reporting by Rhee So-eui; Editing by Keiron Henderson)
