Shares in LG.PHILIPS LCD (034220.KS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), South Korean flat screen maker, rose 2.41 percent to 44,550 won thanks to expectations that surging demand for LCD products such as laptops would continue.

It extended a rally following Wednesday's strong profit outlook from Hewlett-Packard, of which LG Philips LCD is a top supplier.

"Demand for both TV and notebook panels will likely remain strong, offsetting weak panel prices," said Cheon Hoh, an analyst at Goodmorning Shinhan Securities.
