TOKYO, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Japan's Taiyo Yuden (6976.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has filed a patent suit against two Taiwanese makers of DVD discs, the business daily Nikkei reported on Sunday.

Taiyo Yuden claimed in a suit filed to a California district court that Prodisc Technology Inc (2396.TW: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) and Ritek Corp (2349.TW: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) infringed its patent on manufacturing technology for DVD-R (digital versatile disc-recordable), the paper said.

Taiyo Yuden estimates the amount of damage to be several billions of yen, the paper said.

A spokesman for Taiyo Yuden was unavailable for comment. (Reporting by Yuzo Saeki; Editing by Michael Urquhart)
