JOHANNESBURG, May 9 (Reuters) - Gold Fields (GFIJ.J: Quote, Profile, Research), the world's No. 4 gold producer, posted a 67 percent rise to 155 cents in adjusted headline earnings per share for the third quarter, but production fell by 14 percent on a power crunch in South Africa.

Gold Fields said on Friday a much higher gold price accounted for the increased headline EPS for the third quarter to end-March, up from 93 South African cents in the second quarter to end-December.

Headline EPS are adjusted to exclude the effects of financial instruments and foreign debt.

Production came in at 827,000 ounces for the third quarter as analysts had expected, as South African mining output was scaled back due to inadequate power supply since January. (Reporting by James Macharia)
