TOKYO, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Alico Japan, the Japanese unit of American Life Insurance Co, has received 90.7 billion yen ($856 million) in capital from its parent company to strengthen its capital, it said.

Alico Japan said the funds were received on Monday from American Life Insurance Co (ALICO), and boosted its capital to 323 billion yen.

ALICO, which operates as a life insurer in more than 55 nations and regions, is part of American International Group Inc (AIG.N), once the world's largest insurer, which was forced to seek a U.S. government rescue last month after its shares crashed. ($1=106.01 Yen) (Reporting by Junko Fujita)
