Former Goldman Sachs exec now Berkeley b-school dean

NEW YORK, July 18 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs Group Inc's (GS.N) former chief learning officer Richard Lyons has been named dean of the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business, the university said.

At Goldman Sachs, where he spent two years, Lyons headed a part of the firm's Pine Street group, which is responsible for developing leadership among its managing directors and partners.

Lyons was the acting dean of the Haas School of Business, in 2004-05.

Lyons' appointment was made July 7, but was announced on Friday.

He told Reuters he was planning to teach a course this school year, to be determined, but likely in the areas of leadership or international finance.

Lyons' chief responsibilities will be to increase faculty size, build the the school's endowments and plan a new building. (Reporting by Phil Wahba; editing by Carol Bishopric)
