TOKYO, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei stock average slipped 2.2 percent on Wednesday as renewed worries about U.S. financial institutions stoked economic concern, with Canon Inc 7751. and other exporters down on a stronger yen. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (8306.T) and other financials slid in the wake of falls by their U.S. peers that dragged Wall Street lower. Market players said this had a bigger impact than data showing Japan's economy shrank 0.6 percent in April-June from the previous quarter, matching market expectations. [ID:nT110289] The benchmark Nikkei .N225 shed 297.02 points to 13,006.58 after earlier slipping to 12,972.92 and looked set for its biggest one-day percentage loss in more than a month. The broader Topix fell 2.1 percent to 1,244.96. (Reporting by Elaine Lies)
