Mobistar eyeing Belgian KPN assets
BRUSSELS, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Mobistar (MSTAR.BR), Belgium's second biggest mobile phone operator is looking into acquiring some of Dutch telecoms group KPN (KPN.AS) Belgian assets, a spokeswoman for the group said on Saturday.
"Mobistar always examines opportunities on the market. We have not yet taken any decisions," the spokeswoman said.
A spokesman for KPN Belgium told Belgian daily De Tijd on Saturday the group had started a formal procedure to sell its business-customer unit and fibre network in Belgium.
KPN, which owns the smallest of Belgium's three mobile operators, BASE, is active in broadband through Tele2 Belgium, which it acquired in 2007 and recently rebranded to BASE.
A shortlist of potential buyers had been drawn up, De Tijd said, with sources citing Belgian cable company Telenet (TNET.BR) and corporate telecoms specialist Colt Telecoms (COLT.L) as other candidates. (Reporting by Antonia van de Velde)
