(Adds Televisa quote)

BOGOTA, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Mexico's Televisa (TLVACPO.MX: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) (TV.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) plans to bid for a private sector Colombian television channel slated to start broadcasting next year, a source in Colombia's television regulatory body told Reuters on Tuesday.

"Televisa just confirmed their intention to participate in the bidding for the new private television channel," the source at the National Television Commission said.

But a Televisa spokesman in Mexico City said later that it was too early to say whether the company will participate in the bidding.

"We are looking at the conditions of the auction. If we consider it a good opportunity for Televisa, we will get involved," the spokesman said.

Big foreign businesses such as General Electric Co (GE.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) of the United States and Venezuela's Cisneros Organization also plan to bid, Colombia's National Television Commission said last month.

Colombia is served by two private nationwide TV stations, Caracol CTV.CN and RCN TRR.CN. (Reporting by Javier Mozzo; Additional reporting by Cyntia Barrera in Mexico City; Writing by Hugh Bronstein; Editing by Brian Moss)
