BOSTON, Jan 10 (Reuters) - VMware Inc (VMW.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has acquired assets of privately held information technology services provider Foedus, a spokesman for the business software maker said.

VMware spokesman Greg Eden said late on Wednesday that the deal had closed earlier this month, and 30 Foedus employees would move over to his company.

Eden declined to discuss financial terms. Officials with Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based Foedus were not immediately available for comment.

Foedus specializes in helping companies design and install computer systems using virtualization technology, including software from VMware. Virtualization software boosts the efficiency of server computers by allowing one machine to run multiple operating systems.

Eden said the newly acquired unit would help train IT services firms that resell VMware's products, advising them on best practices.

VMware is majority-owned by EMC Corp (EMC.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz). (Reporting by Jim Finkle; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
