EMC to launch 'EMC Cloud' Web service-SAP exec

BOSTON, Feb 13 (Reuters) - EMC Corp (EMC.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) the world's largest maker of storage equipment, is setting up a service that will host business software, dubbed "EMC Cloud," a senior executive with German software maker SAP AG (SAPG.DE: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) said on Wednesday.

SAP, the world's biggest maker of business management software, is in a partnership through which it will offer its computer programs on the new service from U.S.-based EMC, said Doug Merritt, president of SAP Labs North America and a member of the SAP Executive Board.

He made the comment in a telephone interview.

A spokesman for EMC said he could not immediately comment on the company's plans to get into the field of cloud computing. (Reporting by Jim Finkle, editing by Leslie Gevirtz)
