UPDATE 1-ITC confirms Nokia win over Qualcomm - companies
(Adds comment from Qualcomm)
WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (Reuters) - Mobile phone maker Nokia's (NOK1V.HE) win over chip maker Qualcomm Inc (QCOM.O) in one of their many patent battles was confirmed on Wednesday by a trade panel that hears many patent cases, the two companies said.
The U.S. International Trade confirmed Judge Paul Luckern's Dec. 12 ruling in Nokia's favor.
In its complaint, Qualcomm had accused Nokia of infringing on patents that control power to mobile telephones. Qualcomm had asked the ITC to bar the importation of the technology.
Nokia applauded the decision.
"Nokia has been informed today that the ITC Commission has decided that there is no need to review Judge Luckern's initial determination," the company said in a statement. "Qualcomm's strategy of pursuing lawsuits around the world against Nokia continues to be rejected."
Qualcomm said it had not yet decided whether it would appeal the decision, and it was disappointed in the ruling.
Finland's Nokia and San Diego-based Qualcomm have about a dozen legal fights pending on at least two continents. (Reporting by Diane Bartz; Editing by Andre Grenon, Richard Chang)
