PARIS, Jan 24 (Reuters) - President Nicolas Sarkozy's proposal to scrap advertising on French public television channels could generate over 300 million euros ($438.5 million) in additional revenue for private channels, the head of the country's second-largest private television M6 (MMTP.PA).

Chairman Nicolas de Tarvernost also told French daily Le Monde in an interview published on Thursday that he opposed plans to partly fund the revenue shortfall for public channels with a tax on the advertising revenue of private channels.

"Increasing taxes on television advertising would not be a good thing", he said.
