Inventec sees higher laptop shipments, server sales
TAIPEI, June 16 (Reuters) - Taiwan's Inventec Corp (2356.TW), the world's No.4 contract maker of laptop PCs, expects to ship more than 5 million laptops in the second quarter, up about 5 percent from the first quarter, amid recovering demand.
"The forecasts from our clients are positive but our own forecast is cautious," Inventec President Paul Wang told reporters at a luncheon on Tuesday.
"The U.S. market was not as bad as we had expected even though demand from Europe is not very good."
Meanwhile, Richard Lee, invectec's chairman, said the company would start shipping small amounts of servers to Dell (DELL.O) this month and expects sales of its server business to double to T$100 billion ($3 billion) in the coming years.
